Opening of VCU School of Medicine ICAMS Marks the 23rd Simulation Lab/Clinical Skills Center Completed by Human Circuit
VCU School of Medicine prepares medical students for their careers as physicians through realistic hands-on training at Inova’s new simulation center designed by Human Circuit.
Gaithersburg, MD., (September 10, 2015) – Human Circuit provides VCU’s Inova Center for Advanced Medical Simulation (ICMAS) with a turnkey medical simulation center complete with custom hardware that works in connection with B-Line Medical’s software to digitally record and store footage of students performing specific clinical tasks for administrators and instructors to review and evaluate in real-time.
Located in Falls Church, VA, Inova’s 12,000 sq. ft. facility offers simulation services to the entire Inova Health System. Human Circuit applied designs specifically for case study rooms, self-teaching labs, patient exam rooms, observation rooms, and computer rooms. Audio and video feeds from microphones and cameras throughout the facility are encoded in real-time and multicast over an Ethernet infrastructure as MPEG4 streams. Utilizing internet group management protocol (IGMP) Human Circuit maximizes video distribution and minimizes network bandwidth utilization.
Craig R. Coleman, Medical Simulation Manager at ICAMS says of Human Circuit, “They were there through every step of the planning process to provide valuable advice and insight to optimize our center’s capabilities and utilization. Their expertise was unparalleled and shined above all others. Human Circuit’s teams were coherent and efficient during the implementation process, working with various other vendors to coordinate installations and integration with the varying systems.”
To better prepare health sciences students for careers as healthcare providers, Human Circuit has enabled simulation and clinical skills facilities to offer hands-on training opportunities in clinical, surgical and emergency room situations. The technology within the simulation center includes web-based wireless control and monitoring that is flexible and easy to use.
“Inova showed the culmination of over five years of collaboration” said Bruce Kaufmann, President & CEO of Human Circuit. “We worked with Craig Coleman and Dr. Craig Cheifetz from the time the facility was simply a vision and mission, until they were able to gather the financial resources to make it a reality. The success of those efforts is easily seen in the immediate effectiveness of the facility,” says Kaufmann.
