HTML-Based Control System for Hospitals: This new “untethered” workflow is an innovative and easy-to-use solution for system control, communication, video conferencing and distribution in the OR.
Baystate Medical Center requested an innovative and revolutionary media and technology integration approach for this $296 million expansion and Human Circuit’s engineering team was invited to work with the Drake Systems Group on this exciting project.
Surgeons and staff needed an intuitive interface for communicating, previewing video and controlling presets for video routing. Video from OR cameras, scopes and other medical imaging equipment and devices needed to be viewed, monitored and delivered in real time, or recorded for Video on Demand (VOD). Hospital staff needed to be time and cost efficient, flexible and able to easily control all functions from portable, less expensive and more versatile technology.
Human Circuit combined "all-in-one" touch panel PCs with an intuitive HTML-based control system programmed using common web development tools that can be deployed on any device with a web browser. The multi-use control touch panel technology employed works with all PCs and was designed to step away from the cost and technical limitations imposed by purpose-built touch panels. In effect: smartphones, tablets and integrated all-in-one PCs become the control service of choice. This new “untethered” workflow is an innovative and easy-to-use solution for system control, communication and video conferencing and distribution in the OR.
The solution also included video interfaces for the HTML-based control system, scalers, one-touch control for video routing and previews, encoders for multicasts over Ethernet, along with recording capabilities as well as servers. To connect medical imaging devices for monitoring and recording, Human Circuit installed video interfaces in surgical booms. Once video from the surgical booms is sent through the router, it becomes available to monitors and encoders
