HTML-Based Control Systems Use Familiar Tablet Technology for End-User Comfort and Ease
After more than 30 years in Silver Spring, Maryland, Choice Hotel moved its head headquarters to the Town Center in Rockville creating a new location from which to serve an empire of eleven brands such as Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Cambria Suites, Ascend and Econo Lodge. The new offices occupy more than 130,000 square feet and reflect the company’s new direction. The concept behind the Rockville headquarters was to get workers to interact —a feat encouraged by airy common areas, a bright, open staircase that seams through the building’s workspaces, outdoor terraces, a modern bar and kitchen area, and the latest in communication and collaboration technology. Human Circuit was asked to provide technology integration and solutions for this project and used efficient workflow and end-user ease as the criteria.
The sophisticated HTML-based control systems in all conference rooms use tablets that are familiar to most users creating comfort and a simple learning experience. Similar controls are used for the automated scheduling system that uses a touch panel located outside of each conference room to book a meeting or check room status or existing schedules. Directional kiosks are located on every floor and can also be used to find employees, post updates, obtain event information, make announcements, and welcome visitors. In the mini history museum area interactive signage with touch panels allow viewers to access and interact with historical videos and library documents. Large 4 way divisible multipurpose rooms are equipped with delegate microphone systems, video and audio conferencing capabilities. Also integrated with advanced technology are several “lounge” feeling collaboration rooms, executive boardrooms, divisible training spaces and video teleconferencing suites. And, a distributed audio system enhances the entire facility.
